CATALOGUING: ethodologies for cataloguing cultural heritage; Computerized cataloguing and multimedia documentation

Purpose
The courses aim to provide general training in the Italian cataloguing method for archaeological, architectural and landscaped, art historical and demo-anthropological heritage. Moreover, they give a general knowing of computerized cataloguing, as implemented using the Catalogue General Information System (SIGECweb).

Training offered
Cataloguing is the essential knowledge stage for the correct management of all cultural properties. A core mission of the Central Institute for Cataloguing and Documentation (ICCD) is to research and develop knowledge methods and instruments for the preservation and utilization of Italian artistic and cultural heritage.
The ICCD coordinates the research, development and definition of cataloguing standards for the different types of cultural heritage under the preservation responsibility of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism (archaeological, architectural-landscape, art-historic and ethno-anthropological). The cataloguing standards consist of norms, specific terminological instruments and sets of rules and instructions for the methods to be followed in the acquisition of information about heritage properties, for the production of their documentation. The aim is to record the data according to uniform criteria, shared throughout the nation.
SIGECweb controls the entire process of producing the catalogue records, manages the procedural flows, and permits the real-time communication of the cataloguing standards, immediate functional updating, implementation of data on cultural heritage, and use of the data in conjunction with other systems. The functions of the working environment are adapted to the profiles and roles of each agency and user, selecting the system actions suitable for the specific activities in the management of the catalogue data.
